Vacuum degassing unit in Belval is officially up and running

Industries Sections and Merchants Bars Sheet Piling

At the end of August, the first heat was successfully processed at the vacuum degassing unit in Belval, a new strategic facility installed as part of the SteelUp! project. This large-scale project - undertaken within ArcelorMittal Long Products Luxembourg - aims to modernise the Belval steel plant, including the revamping of its electric arc furnace. This achievement marks a historic milestone for Luxembourg’s steel industry and opens a new chapter for the Belval steel plant.

Thanks to this state-of-the-art equipment, the site will be able to efficiently produce commodity grades for the Belval Medium Section Mill, while also developing high-added-value grades for semi-finished products used to manufacture rails at the Rodange Train A rolling mill, which currently has to source suitable grades from outside Luxembourg. This major step will further strengthen the competitiveness and production capabilities of the Luxembourg site.
